Horticulture Division Rules

1. This Flower Show Exhibition is a cultivar show staged in accordance to the type of the various Sections. Each cultivar constitutes a separate group and will be placed in alphabetical order according to the cultivar names. No distinction is to be made between the classification of diploids and tetraploids.

2. All horticulture entries eligible for AHS Rosettes and medals must be entered on-scape.

3. The Exhibition is open to everyone. All entries must have been grown, groomed, and entered by the exhibitor.

4. An exhibitor may enter as many cultivars as desired, however, not more than one scape of the same cultivar will be shown except in Division I, Section 11. (Also, see Club Award, Division I, Section 13.)

5. The exhibitor is responsible for identifying each cultivar entered. The Classification Committee will not be responsible for deciding the cultivar name for an entry. Cultivars not correctly identified or exhibited may be disqualified from competition and may be designated as “FOR DISPLAY PURPOSES ONLY.”

6. Any cultivar eligible for exhibit in Sections 6, 7, or 9, MUST be exhibited only in that section unless it is a required unit for a collection. This rule helps to emphasize popularity and diversity within the show. If there is a conflict between 6, 7, 9, a cultivar must be exhibited in the first section (and only in that section) to which it belongs, as follows:

    a. Section 9 - Region 6 Poplularity Poll Winners

    b. Section 6 - Registered Spider Flowers

    c. Section 7 - Registered Unusual Form Flowers

7. Cultivars whose names are not listed in the AHS checklist or supplement may not be exhibited in any Division, Section, Class, or Group where registered Cultivars are specified.

8. A section will be provided for youth exhibitors. Youth exhibitors are subject to the same AHS rules. A youth exhibitor is defined as anyone under the age of 18 or who turns 18 during this calendar year. Youth Exhibitors may enter in either the regular Horticulture Sections (1-7) or the Youth Section (8) but not in both sections. Youth may additionally enter Sections 9-13.

9. Daylilies which have been registered according to AHS regulations are eligible for exhibition in all sections except Division I - Sections 10 and 11. Only seedlings and pre-registered cultivars will be eligible for Section 10 and 11.

10. The generic name “seedling” rather than a seedling number or a pre-registered name must be used on the exposed portion of the entry tag. The seedling number, Pre-registered name, or other hybridizer’s cultivar identification may be printed below in the folded portion of the entry tag, but must not be visible when the tag is folded.

11. All seedlings (including pre-registered cultivars) must be severed as near to the base as possible regardless of height.

12. A seedling having won the AHS Rosette at any other accredited show is not eligible.

13. The height of scapes of registered cultivars, as exhibited, must not exceed 36 inches.

14. The AHS Checklist of Registered Cultivar Names and Supplements (including the latest AHS compendiums of unusual form daylilies, spiders, etc.) will be the authority used for placement of each cultivar in the show.

15. Only the Classification Chairman has the authority to disqualify any entry that is damaged or does not conform to the schedule.

16. Panels consisting of accredited AHS Exhibition Judges will participate in judging all classes in the Horticultural Division. Each panel of Judges is the final authority for each class in which it judges.

17. All entries will be judged in their respective groups, according to their respective merits by the judges. Each seedling or pre-registered cultivar in Section 10 constitutes a class to be judged on the individual merit.

18. If purple ribbons are awarded in Class A and B of Section 5 (Registered Double Flowers), then they must be point scored to determine a single winner for the AHS Rosette for this Section.

19. For Section 11 (AHS Achievement Medal), each judge on the panel will point score each scape individually. Scoring sheets will be returned to the Show Chairperson, who will tabulate the scores and announce the winner.

20. The “Best In Show” will be selected by the entire panel of Horticultural Division Judges. These selections will be in accordance with the AHS policy using the “AHS Best in Show” scoring sheets.

21. Seedling cultivars may be entered in Division I - Section 10. They are eligible for AHS awards in that Section. Separately, a seedling cultivar may be entered in the Club Sponsored - Peoples Popularity Award Section. Entries in the latter are not eligible for Purple Ribbons or AHS Rosettes.
